Inauguration of New Basketball Court

24.06.2026 – Inauguration of New Basketball Court The Rotary Club of Mettupalayam inaugurated a new Basketball Court at Government Higher Secondary School, Mettupalayam, on 24 June 2026 to promote sports and student development. The court was inaugurated by Chief Guest Rtn. AKS. AS. Sivabalan, District Governor Designate 2028–29, RID 3203, and the commemorative plaque was unveiled by Guest of Honour Shri R. Murali Babu, Managing Trustee of the N. Krishnaswamy & Premaleela Trust. President Rtn. R. Santhamoorthy welcomed the gathering and reaffirmed Rotary's commitment to youth empowerment. The Headmistress expressed gratitude to Rotary and the donors for providing the school with a modern sports facility. Rtn. PP. AKS. Er. S. Gnanasekaran donated ₹25,000 for sports equipment and offered to improve the school's football ground. The programme concluded with an exhibition basketball match between SVGV School, Karamadai, and GHSS, Annur. The project was made possible through the generous support of the N. Krishnaswamy & Premaleela Trust, Rotarians, donors, and well-wishers, reflecting Rotary's enduring commitment to education, sports, and community service.

As part of the celebration, 44 students of Grade V from the Junior Section performed Surya Namaskar, demonstrating the importance of physical fitness, discipline, and mindfulness. Students R. Chanakya (IX B), C. K. Razhini (VII C), and J. Harishka (XI A2) showcased various yoga asanas with confidence and precision, highlighting the benefits of regular yoga practice for a healthy body and a calm mind. The programme created awareness among students about the significance of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

06.06.2026 Celebrating 10 Years of Healing at Savitha Hospital On the occasion of Savitha Hospital’s 10th Anniversary on Friday, 6th June 2026, a series of impactful service initiatives were organized at the hospital premises in Karamadai, reflecting a deep commitment to community welfare. Our Rotary Club of Mettupalayam was honored to be part of this noble endeavour. President Rtn. K. Selvam, Secretary Rtn. Senivasan C., and Treasurer Rtn. Sanjay graced the occasion and actively participated in the day’s service events. Tree saplings were symbolically planted by our team alongside Rtn. Dr. Ismail and Rtn. Dr. Saritha, reinforcing our shared dedication to both health and the environment. The Free Eye Screening Camp was formally inaugurated by Rtn. Dr. Ismail, who also serves as the President of the Indian Medical Association, Mettupalayam. In a shining example of “Service Above Self,” Rtn. Dr. Sasithra and Rtn. Sanjay selflessly donated blood during the Blood Donation Camp, organized under the leadership of Mr. N.N. Ramakrishnan, Social Activist and Executive Director, Naakkupetta Trust, Ooty. All blood donors were gifted saplings — a beautiful gesture linking life-saving service with environmental stewardship. A General Medical Consultation Camp was led by Dr. B.R. Sasikumar, HOD of Pediatrics, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, offering free healthcare guidance to attendees. The event was a remarkable blend of compassion, care, and community. 05.06.2026 Project HEAL: 36th Camp of Rotary Year 2025-26 Rotary Club of Mettupalayam (District 3203) and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Midtown (District 3206) jointly organized a free breast and cervical cancer screening camp under Project HEAL (Global Grant: GG 2094977). Held at Emerald Jewel Industry India Limited (Unit 1, NSN Palayam, Coimbatore). A four-member medical team from KMCH Hospital conducted the procedures for the companys working women. The camp was coordinated by Rtn. Thiagarajan, Rtn. Krishna Kumar, Rtn. Balkrishna Mehta, and Rtn.Nageswaran, with support from club members. Key Achievements: Mammograms: 20 beneficiaries Pap-smears: 73 beneficiaries Total Value of Services: Rs. 2,75,000 (provided entirely free of charge)

Born in 1978 in Kottarpatti Village, Mr. Chinnakamanans journey from a rural government school to the police force is a testament to perseverance. He entered the service as a Grade II Constable in 1999, rising through the ranks to become a Sub-Inspector in 2008 and Inspector of Police in 2023. Inspector Chinnakamanans career is defined by high-stakes operations and administrative excellence: Special Operations: Earned the Chief Ministers Medal for his role in the 2004 Veerappan operation and led the 2014 apprehension of five Maoists in Karumathampatti.

25.03.2026 Project Heal Update Mammogram Mobile Van Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Initiative of: Rotary Club of Mettupalayam and Rotary District 3203 (Global Grant: GG 2094977 Project HEAL Trust issued a cheque for Rs. 950,000 to Siemens Healthcare Private Limited towards the Annual Maintenance Charges for the Siemens Mammomat Fusion device for the 6th year of our project operations (FY 2026-27). The initial 5-year warranty for the device was included in the original purchase price, and as per the Memorandum of Understanding with Rotary Mettupalayam and KMCH, the Project HEAL Trust is supposed to manage the ongoing operational costs. The cheque was handed over to Siemens by the Chairman of the Trust Mr. Nowrathanmal Shankla, in the presence of Rtn. Dr. Vijayagiri (Secretary), Rtn. 05.02.2026 Fitment of LN4 Prosthetic Hand Rotary Club of Mettupalayam successfully fitted an LN4 prosthetic hand for Mr. Baskaran, a farmer from Madurai. Mr. Baskaran lost part of his arm a few months ago in a work-related accident while cutting grass. He was referred to us by Rtn. Subramani of the Rotary Club of Tirupur North. As the Rotary Club of Mettupalayam operates a permanent LN4 prosthetic fitment center, we were honoured to support him in regaining his independence and confidence. President and Secretary of Rotary Mettupalayam, along with members of the Global Grant Host Committee from Rotary Mettupalayam were invited for the meeting.As of today, Project HEAL has completed 160+ camps and 10,000+ screenings for underprivileged women in our region. The Trustees expressed their appreciation to the Regional Project Coordinators, Rotary Clubs, companies, educational institutions and NGOs who organize the camps, and to KMCH for the top-notch medical services provided for this project at no cost to beneficiaries. As the KMCH staff and vehicle had to return to Coimbatore, the camp was efficiently completed by 2:00 PM. Despite operating for only half a day, the team achieved Mammograms for 51 Women beneficiaries and PAP Smears for 55 beneficiaries. Screening procedures worth Rs.4 Lakhs were provided. Our Principal, staff members, and students from UKG and Fifth Standard visited the care home. Around 60 elderly ladies were living there, many of whom were mentally fragile.We provided lunch for all the residents. The children performed dances and fun activities, bringing smiles and happiness to everyone. The residents also sang songs for the children, creating a heartwarming exchange of joy. As the second leg of the twin camps, the Mammogram vehicle was brought from Bengorm Tea Estate on the evening of 20.08.2025. Dinner and accommodation were arranged by the host organizations. On the next morning, the camp was inaugurated by Chief Medical Officer of Kotagiri Government Hospital, Dr. Abhitha. Breakfast and lunch were also arranged for the screening team by the host organizations. 28 Mammograms and 35 Pap Smear tests were completed for beneficiaries during the day. 29.07.2025 Special Medical Camp at Vana Badra Kaliamman Kundam Festival A medical camp was organized by KPS Hospitals and Rotary Club of Mettupalayam at the Vana Badra Kalliamman Kundam Festival on 29.07.2025. KPS Hospital, Mettupalayam, has consistently provided medical services during the festival over the past 23 years. Club President Rtn. Lr. R. Santha Moorthy, Secretary Rtn. Vijai Vikkash, Rtn. Balagopal, Rtn. Capt. Dorai, and Rtn. Ravikumar attended the event. Members from Inner Wheel, including the President and Secretary, also participated. In this conference around 10-12 thousand people congregate and learn new things, recent developments & also cherish the fellowship, as well friendship bonds. It happens once in a year. After 23 yrs PEDICON is going to be possible for us in the year 2027 at Coimbatore. I am happy that I was part of the team which made it possible to happen in Goa. I did the lead Presentation and it was well received. I could hear from lot of our EB members that they were happy with my articulation and it did really made them feel to come to Coimbatore. Indeed it was a great team work. Our team sacrificed their practise, family time, & all the way working for this for about an year?s time.
